As a life-long resident of Shelby County, a family man, and businessman, who has been involved in Republican politics for many years, Terry fully understands the times in which we live. He also believes Shelby County has some difficult days ahead, as we move deeper into a troubled economy. However, Terry is also very optimistic, that with proper leadership and a common sense approach, we will get through this and will ultimately be stronger.

Here are some of Terry’s thoughts on the following issues:

CONSOLIDATION: The recent mass exodus of citizens from Shelby County to surrounding counties leaves a huge burden on the taxpayers who are left behind. Consolidation will only increase the tax burden on our citizens and businesses will follow their tail lights out of the county..

This can be reversed by using one of Ronald Reagan’s tactics: “When taxes are reduced, the revenues go up and people are attracted back into the county.” Example: neighboring counties are faced with state mandated improvements in their fire, public education and overall in fracture which increases property taxes in those counties. They are faced with the same problems that drove citizens out of Shelby County.

So, now is the time to create a plan that will give citizens and incentive to stay or return to Shelby County.
Therefore, the solution is simply to go down on property taxes and curtail wasteful spending. 

ECONOMY: Our nation’s economy is in shambles because of the failed policies and leadership which have effected us all. We the people, must get involved and informed at all levels to elect leaders who will concentrate on rebuilding our local economies, our manufacturing base, reduce our personal, corporate and national debt.

Terry is dedicated to working with the leaders of each municipality to help them achieve their goals for their communities.

CRIME / GANGS / DRUGS: As a very concerned citizen, Terry is saddened and angered over the level of violence in our communities. He is determined to do something to truly “stop the bleeding.” Terry wants to help keep our youth out of crime, gangs and drugs by working with social groups, ministers, and other elected officials. Until crime is greatly reduced, Terry is determined to do whatever is necessary to keep our neighborhoods safe.

With the help of law enforcement experts like the visionary John Harvey, manager of the hi-tech and award winning “Real Time Crime Center” and “Cyber Watch”, he is committed to work with each community within Shelby County to greatly reduce crime.

EDUCATION: As an involved civic leader, Terry truly understands that education is a vital key to the future of our community. He will work with parents, educators, local and state officials to make sure that every child is career bound and that every child has an equal opportunity to learn in a safe and productive environment.  Terry is against single-forced funding which would put the burden of both school districts on Shelby County taxpayers.  And, he is an advocate of “Special School District.”

SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS: Over the years, we have watched as our neighborhoods have declined because of a number of reasons but Terry is determined to do all that is necessary to keep them safe from predators and criminals.

SENIORS: Terry is very sensitive to the needs of our elderly citizens, especially on fixed income, who should not have to live in fear of rising property taxes, crime and health care. He will work hard to make sure that they are not overlooked.

TAXES: As a taxpayer and businessman, Terry knows full well the burden that has been placed on the citizens of Shelby County. We must create a plan to lower the burden and bring people back into the county.
We must do more to reduce the waste at all levels of government.

ETHICS: As a person who has felt first hand the lack of ethics in politics with his race for Senate District 29 against Ophelia Ford, he is determined to make ethics a huge part of his platform to overhaul Shelby County government.   

SMART GREEN:  By combining common sense, environmental solutions and technology Terry will work with local leaders and chambers of commerce to help bring new jobs and companies to Shelby County.
